Mohammad Shahidehpour

Dr. Mohammad Shahidehpour is Bodine Chair Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and Director of the Robert W. Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago (www.iitmicrogrid.net). He is the Principal Investigator of over $40 million projects on smart grid research and development. Dr. Shahidehpour was the General Chair of the 2012 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT) in Washington DC, and General Chair of the 2011 and 2012 Great Lakes Symposium on Smart Grid and the New Energy Economy in Chicago. He received the IEEE Burke Hayes Award for his research on hydrokinetics, Edison Electric Institute’s Power Engineering Educator Award, Innovation Award from the Association of Electrical Engineering Department Heads, Technologist of the Year Award from the Illinois Technology Association, and IEEE/PES Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award in 2012. He is a Research Professor at North China Electric Power University in Beijing, Technical University of Denmark, and Sharif University of Technology in Iran, and King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. He is the author of 6 books and 400 papers on electric power systems including a book published in 2003 on communication and control in electric power systems. He is a Fellow of IEEE, Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, and an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. As an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, he has lectured in 30 countries on smart grid and its role in developing the digital economy. Dr. Shahidehpour received an Honorary Doctorate in 2009 from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.
